My first shop went well. The weight of the basket at least suggested that I wouldn’t be going hungry. It’s healthy enough and I had money left over for stomach emergencies. There is not much in the way of protein, I have bought baked beans, yoghurt and chickpeas. I also have some frozen peas left over in the store. I might still go back and get something with the spare £2.61 but it might be best to make do this week (especially as I have some frozen meals and so on) so I have extra next time.

I am keeping a record in a spreadsheet (my father would be proud) of the cost of the shops and what I have remaining in my store cupboard. I am also keeping the change and receipts in a separate pot at home so there is no risk of it getting mixed up with my other expenses.
